Hi and welcome!
You might recognize me (or my ferrets) from the YouTube channel "WhiskandBowl". I used to make ferret care videos there.
To further help the ferret community, I decided to create this website as a resource to new ferret owners. I love helping people learn more about their animals!
About Me
Originally from Pennsylvania, I moved to Alaska in August 2015 to teach. I live in the bush and work in a school with just 17 students! My ferrets travel with me and have adapted well to flying home for Christmas and during summer break! They really love the Alaska weather, since it is much cooler there.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, going on Honda rides, and beach combing. I used to have a soap making business, but it was put aside when I moved. I still enjoy making soap from time to time for personal use. I've had many animals through the years, including gerbils, betta fish, and of course ferrets. I also have a sun conure named Kita who lives in PA with my fiancé.
My Ferrets (past and present)
-Wesley: He was my first ferret. I got him in November of 2011, right before Thanksgiving. People thought I was crazy, but I drove 3 hours to pick him up from his old owner (they were moving and couldn't keep him). Currently, Wesley is 2.5 years old. He enjoys playing with people, pooping in corners, and climbing to the top of his cage.
-Bandit: Bandit was my second ferret. At first, I only wanted one ferret because I thought 2 would be overwhelming. Over time, and as school got busier, I realized that Wesley would be happier with a friend. I found Bandit in January of 2012 through Craigslist. His old owner just didn't have time for him anymore. Bandit was the most laid back ferret. He loved sleeping, exploring through the house, and sleeping. Unfortunately, Bandit passed away in 2013 of juvenile lymphoma. He was only 2.5.
-Percy: Percy was my third (unplanned!) ferret. He was originally sold from the pet store I work at to someone, but they later decided that a ferret just wasn't for them, and placed an ad on Craigslist. I knew right away that he couldn't go to anyone else! He was my most challenging ferret. At only 6 weeks old when I got him, it was a tough job nip training him! Percy passed away in early 2015 from cancer.
-Bianca: Bianca was a foster ferret of mine. Her old owners came into the pet store, and said they had a ferret they couldn't keep. I knew I had to help them find her a good home! She went to her new home January of 2013.
-Owen: He was my first "storebought" ferret. After Bandit died, I was at Petco looking at the baby ferrets and I saw a huge, chunky ferret. I asked to see him, and he was the sweetest, goofiest fellow ever. He came home in July of 2013. Owen was 1 year old on February 17, 2014.
FUN FACT: I was originally going to re-name Bandit to Owen, but the name didn't stick. When I got the new ferret home, I decided to name him Owen, in memory of Bandit.
ANOTHER FUN FACT: Owen's birthday is only 1 day away from mine!
-Kaylee: I found Kaylee a few months after I lost Percy. My house just doesn't feel right with only 2 ferrets. I had been looking for a female, and had not had much luck previously (I had found a female who actually turned out to be male, and was unable to integrate into the group).
I drove a few hours to visit her. She was very sweet, and I ended up bringing her home. Surprisingly, she integrated into the group right away, and now she and Owen are the best of friends!
